Desh desk, 3 October 2021: London’s first children’s hospice ‘Richard House’ in Newham has raised £3,600 at the East London Mosque. The money was collected from worshipers attending Friday prayers at East London Mosque on 1st of October. Richard House’s Head of Community and Events Chris Williams and other officials were present. Also, Barrister Nazir Ahmed, former Speaker of the Newham Council, Delowar Khan, Director of Finance and Engagement at the East London Mosque and Sufia Alam, Head of Programs and Mariam Center were present.
Richard House hospice was established in 2000 and provides care to more than 500 children every year. Children who are born with long-term physical complications or other serious illnesses, including cancer, are treated and cared there. Families who are unable to care for their disabled children can seek services from hospices.
They serve the residents of Newham, Barking & Dagenham, Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Redbridge, Ilford, Waltham Forest, Haringey, Islington, Camden and other boroughs in South Essex.
32 percent of the patients are Muslim. Of these, 31 percent are currently children from Newham and 26 percent from Tower Hamlets, which is inhabited by Bangladeshis. The hospice costs £3.25 million a year to operate. The main share of which has to be collected through various fundraising programs. So the people of the community have been called upon to extend a helping hand.
